RecycleMich app makes waste separation a topic at the Donauinselfest in Vienna

How should we recycle properly? How does the RecycleMich app work? What do I have to consider when separating waste? What happens to the collected packaging from the yellow bin and the yellow bag? These and many other questions were answered by the team of the RecycleMich initiative at the 40th Vienna Donauinselfest.  

Around 3,000 visitors to the 40th Vienna Donauinselfest took the opportunity to stop by the RecycleMich booth last weekend thanks to perfect weather. The team led by Ines Kilnhofer, Marketing Manager of the initiative, answered numerous questions about proper waste separation, cleared up prejudices about recycling and demonstrated live at the booth why it is worthwhile to use the RecycleMich app. 

Cool instant wins on the wheel of fortune and a Fairphone as the main price

In addition to extensive information on the correct recycling of packaging and the Austrian circular economy, great instant prices also awaited all stand visitors: Cool goodies such as mobile phone holders, caps or cooler bags could be dusted off at the wheel of fortune. In addition, pizza vouchers were raffled off and, as a special highlight, a Fairphone 4 will be raffled off as the main price this week among all players in the spirit of sustainability.  

“For the second time, we were represented at the Vienna Donauinselfest with a booth for the RecycleMich app. This year it was again a huge success. We met so many interested visitors who not only wanted to see the concerts, but also wanted to take advantage of the numerous consulting services offered by the organisers,” says Marketing Manager Ines Kilnhofer, summing up the successful weekend. “We can dispel prejudices about the correct disposal of empty lightweight packaging only through intensive educational work on correct recycling in the yellow bin and the yellow bag. The RecycleMich initiative is the ideal link between distributors and consumers: By incentivising exemplary behaviour, we can increase recycling rates. We must succeed in bringing every package back into the cycle. This is where we all come in and must pull together for Austria!”

For more than two years, RecycleMe GmbH, the consulting company for recyclable packaging management and sister company of the Reclay Group, has been operating the successful RecycleMich app throughout Austria. In the meantime, more than 1.3 million packages have been collected correctly and can thus be returned to the material cycle through high-quality recycling. And this is how the innovative recycling app works: empty the packaging, scan the barcode, read the separation instructions, take a photo of the collection point, dispose of the packaging correctly, collect points and win. One point is credited for each package. If it is a packaging from a cooperation partner (Coca-Cola Austria, delta Pronatura, Eckes-Granini, Espara, Henkel, Innocent, Red Bull), you even get 5 additional points. Weekly and monthly, vouchers are played out among all users, e.g., shopping vouchers from partner Lidl Austria or a 6-month subscription to the streaming provider Sky Austria.
