RecycleMich @ Vienna City Marathon 2023

Reading time: 1 Minute, 47 Seconds

Great atmosphere and visit from Mayor Dr. Michael Ludwig

On the weekend of April 23/24, 2023, the 40th Vienna City Marathon took place in Vienna. As in previous years, the RecycleMich initiative provided information about correct recycling using the RecycleMich app during the event. For the first time, the stand was open not only during the major event but also on Saturday, when the Coca-Cola Inclusion Run and other pre-competitions took place.

Bright weather, motivated runners and interesting discussions about correct recycling were not the only highlights of this year’s marathon weekend. Vienna’s Mayor Dr. Michael Ludwig paid a visit to the Coca-Cola Village on Saturday before the Coca-Cola Inclusion Run and stopped by the RecycleMich booth with interest. He was pleased that the RecycleMich initiative, together with Coca-Cola Austria, offered a lot of information on the correct collection and recycling of PET beverage bottles and other packaging made of plastic and metal.

“Thanks to the support of Coca-Cola Austria, our partner from the very beginning, we have now been represented at the Vienna City Marathon for the third time. This year directly in the Coke Village and on both days of the event. Our commitment to major events like this is enormously important because this is where we reach so many people. We can inform consumers that the circular economy doesn’t work without their participation,” says Ines Kilnhofer, Head of Marketing at the RecycleMich Initiative, about the successful weekend.

“Once again, this year, only refillable reusable cups or cups that can be 100% recycled in the paper bin were issued in the Coke Village. Only the runners received a PET drink bottle when they crossed the finish line. Responsible handling of packaging is essential in view of the ecological situation. We therefore always work with the global goal that every bottle or can is returned to the recycling system after use. Programs like the RecycleMich initiative can support this and are essential for sustainable success,” says Mark Joainig, Corporate Affairs & Sustainability Director at Coca-Cola HBC Austria.
